The distribution of Helicobacter pylori is over worldwide, the prevalence is 50%. This infection is associated with pathologies such as gastritis, ulcers, gastric cancer and MALT lymphoma. The objectives of this study were to describe the relationship between disease and infection by Helicobacter pylori, to compare the diagnostic capability of the urease test between bacteriological culture, and compare the frequency of isolation of Helicobacter pylori in gastric fundus and pyloric antro. Gastric biopsies were taken from 116 patients for bacteriological culture and for identification the urease test, was registered clinical diagnosis of each patient. In 51% of patients with gastritis, 54% ulcer, and 50% of patients with other diseases at the stomach, it was observed development of Helicobacter pylori in culture. The urease test gave a positive result to diagnosis in 64% of patients and cultivation gave positive results in 51% of patients. The isolation of Helicobacter pylori from pyloric antro is 43% and 38% gastric fundus. Helicobacter pylori was isolated in 51% of patients.
