The problem of fuels, their exhaustion and high cost have been considered enough reasons to investigate how to obtain an alternative energy source such as biogas, biodiesel and bioethanol, through the hydrolysis of agroindustrial residuals, contributing this way to the bioremediation. In this study were cultivate and isolated anaerobic thermophilic bacteria isolated from thermal waters of Bolivian Andean region, using Hungate modified Technique, Biphasic culture (traditional methods) and Calcium Alginate Encapsulation (non traditional method). 2B and FT3 consortia were selected by cultivation in glucose and xylose respectively. Two enzymatic activities were measured in both consortia. The cellulolytic and xylanolytic activity of consortia were 1 and 0.9 UI/mL respectively. Ethanol production was 0.25 g/L and 0.1 g/L respectively. The immobilization of bacteria in alginate beads allows the increment of biomass and high yield ethanol production. These facts facilitate the direct use in ethanol production or in purified enzymes of industrial interest.
