Introduction: Official statistics about occupational accidents provide information of sinister labor accidents in countries and evaluate public politics about occupational safety and health. Objective: To describe occupational accidents qualified in Ecuador from an epidemiological perspective. Materials and methods: Descriptive study based on the statistics of the Ecuadorian Social Security Institute in the period from 2014 to 2016 (n = 61981). Work accidents were grouped in demographic, geographical, temporal, economic activities, type of disability - injury and, finally, part of the injured body of the injured variables. Frequencies, rates and percentages of variation are presented. Results: In the study period, it was observed that the main cities of the country presented greater labor accidents. Men between the ages of 26 and 35 years old were the most injured (adjusted rate = 79,6 x 10 000 men) in the services and construction sector. 95 % of occupational accidents (n = 59 311) caused temporary incapacity. Bruises, internal injuries, open wounds and bone broken were the major types of injury, particularly in hands, legs and knees. Conclusions: These results can be considered as the first study that describes the qualified work accidents in Ecuador, letting know the reality about the labor accidents in the country.
