    Resumen

    Introduction: The consumption of alcohol, tobacco and drugs have negative effeets in worker's health and also in the productivity with growing social, epidemiological and financial impact. Objective: To identify the level of risk for the use and consumption of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs in workers of Ecuadorian textile area, with the purpose of helping to setting future prevention programs. Materials and Methods: An observational, descriptive, cross sectional study in which the questionary ASSIST V 3.0 of the World Health Organization. It was applied on every worker. Results: In the survey population the following results were obteined: 81,7% had smoked tobacco once in their life, ingested alcoholic beverages a 99,6 % (n = 240), consumed cannabis a 10,4 % (n = 25), being the most used drug in relation to cocaine, stimulants like amphetamine, inhalants, sedatives or sleeping drugs. In relation of the scores obtained, the level of the riskto health was low fortabacco including 84, 2 % of the surveyed and for the remainning 15,8 % the risk was medium. 59%presented low risk for alcohol consumption and 40,2 % risk medium. As for cannabis 99,2 % had low, 0,8 % medium risk and for the rest of the substances the risk was low in the 100 % of the surveyed. Conclusions: Health promotion actions are necessary on this issue in order to generate greater social concern in the population and particularly among the workers. Also is important to perform a drug use prevention program at the studied institution that allows keeping a level of risk even lower than the one found.
