ABSTRACT Purulent pericarditis is a rare disease that affects the pericardium and has a high mor-tality. This paper presents a case, where an l8-year-old patient, refers a clinical picture of approximately 21 days of evolution, char-acterized at the beginning by the emergence of an abscess, in the right thigh, which ap-peared because of a laceration in his work, then is added the presence of another abscess at armpit level, having both fluctuat-ing characteristics, and painful movement. Three days later their general condition worsens and is added to the picture, modérate chest pain and dysnea degree two. After being hospitalized 2 weeks at another hospital in the city, it is transferred to the San Juan de Dios Hospital where diagnosed suppurative pericarditis and Staphylococcal bacteremia. To resolve this case, is treated with antibiotics; a videothorascopy with pleuropericardic window andpleural decor-tication; bilateral pleural drainage for em-pyema bilateral; and instillation of strepto-kinase because of a right septate empyema; In addition to the drainage of abscesses. The objective of the present work is the making a revisión of literature of suppurative pericarditis in order to make a compar-ison between the literature and practice.
