ABSTRACT Objectives: To know the age of appearance of the menarca in the cities of La Paz and El Alto. To identify the most frequent premenstrual and menstrual symptoms in the youths of the cities of La Paz and El Alto. Hypothesis: Variation exists in the age average of the menarca in connection with the origin and the residence in the cities of La Paz and El Alto. Type of study: Retrospective cross sectional study. Results: The sample belongs to 300 people: 100 in the city of El Alto, 100 in the central area of the city of La Paz and 100 in the south area of the city of La Paz. The age of appearance of the most frequent menarca in the city of El Alto is to the 14 years, in the south area to the 11 years and in the central area it is to the 13 years. The ages average of appearance of the menarca are: in the city of El Alto it is de13,61 years, in the central area it is de12,89 years and in the south area it is of 12,99 years. Conclusions: Regarding the premenstrual symptoms can say that a presentation difference exists according to the study area, in the city of El Alto and in the central area of the city of La Paz bigger incidence of irritability exists, and in the south area of the city of La Paz it was observed that it exists bigger migraine incidence and acne. One could also observe that most of studied people don't present premenstrual symptoms. The most frequent menstrual symptoms that we have registered in the city of El Alto are the abdominal pains and the general uneasiness, in the south area the abdominal pain and the migraine. Not existing great difference in the three areas.
