This article describes the characteristics of the Toyota Production System - TPS, starting with a brief relation of its creators, the JIT and JIDOKA principles that underpin the pillars of TPS, as well as the tools that drive the formation of a culture of continuous improvement and a series of values that seek efficiency in production through the reduction of unproductivity at all levels, offering competitive products of high quality. All the teachings that can be assimilated from the TPS are not only applicable in the manufacturing industry, since many of them also focus on the integral development of the person as a key element for cultural development and social progress.
