Cerebral Vascular Accidente ACV (cerebral infart and cerebral hemorrhage) kilts about 5 million people every year. Since it is and important pathology in many other countries. we proposed to investigate the impact this illness has on our population. We considered the following investigative question: What is the frequency of cerebral vascular accidents in patients that where admitted to the Santa Barbara Hospital in Sucre whitin the time frame of January 2002 trough 30 July 2003? Adescriptive transversal type study was realized, in which clinical histories where reviewed from the neurosurgery department at Santa Barbara Hospital in Sucre, within the period of January 2002 and June 2003. Of the 396 clinical histories reviewed at the Santa Barbara Hospital, we found 59 clinical histories with diagnosis of CVA (14,8%). The age most affected was within 55 and 64 years of age (31,6%). The sex most affected where the males with 63,2%. The most frequent symptom was hemiparesis of the right side, whit 45%.
