Abstract

ROJAS SALAZAR, Freddy Marcos et al. ESTUDIO DESCRIPTIVO DE LAS ENTEROPARASITOSIS EN PACIENTES DEL HOSPITAL MATERNO INFANTIL GERMAN URQUIDI COCHABAMBA-BOLIVIA: Desde Enero a Diciembre del 2001. Ciencia y Medicina [online]. 2003, n.4, pp. 53-56. ISSN 1111-1111.

Nowadays, parasitism constitutes the most forgotten Latin American endemia, it's importance and relevance in our country, Bolivia, is not to be minimized; therefore, the following descriptive, retrospective study was made. This study was made at the German Urquidi Mother-Children Hospital in the city of Cochabamba with 1779 coproparasitological tests results on children between the ages of five and fifteen. Basically, the objective of this test is to determine the frequency of enteroparasitism by "request" (patients that requested a coproparasitological) at the German Urquidi Mother-Children Hospital between the months of January and December, 2001. 23.8 % of the examined samples were positive for one or more parasite species; however, it must not be forgotten that the study was not addressed to the population in general, but to a specific group. Regarding to protozoan, the most prevailing parasites were Giardia lamblia (37.5%), followed by E. histolytica (37.2%) which have been habitually observed in valley areas and regional studies. Regarding to Helmints, the most prevailing parasites in this study were Strongiloides stercoralis (10.8%) and Áscaris lumbricoides (5.9%). Classical literature states Oxyuris vermicularis as the most frequent helmint. This study does not mean that patients with oxiurosis do not exist in our hospital, for the samples were analyzed with a test not suitable for oxiure search.
