PEREZ ARIAS, Adolfo Enrique. Settlement patterns in a river community Iruhito, a case of study. Textos Antropológicos [online]. 2016, vol.17, n.1, pp. 13-31. ISSN 1025-3181.
In this article, an analysis of the settlement patterns in Iruhito is carried out considering how environmental and human factors delineated the character of the site through time. The nature of the interrelationships and competition among societies in the Lake Titicaca Basin, and the Desaguadero River Valley is generally a result of economic and political relationships, and, in some circumstances, strong stimuli from religious ideology promoted by influential centers. During the Tiwanaku period, for example, these stimuli with a strong symbolic emphasis, would have been projected in the "templete" and the "chachapumas" of Iruhito to a degree that determined a fundamental change in their internal layout, re-organizing spaces directed towards ritual and integration purposes. On the other hand, their strategic geopolitical location resulted in the long and uninterrupted occupation in such environmental and political context, transforming it into a dynamic element within the cultural mosaic of the region.
