Tiwanaku signifies the first development of urbanism in the Andean altiplano. The principle Tiwanaku sites, located to the southeast ofLake Titicaca, only recently have been considered populatedcities, and still today, are considered to have been primarily ofreligious orpatrimonial character. Based on a decade ofresearch, this article intends to explore some key characteristics of Tiwanaku urbanism and the role of the fiesta within the context of political negotiations. Stylistic variation isfoundin ceramic drinking vessels. These vessels wereparticularly conceivedof asaspecializedtechnologyforfeastingandvehiclesforiconographicexpression.Becauseofthis, it is concluded that Tiwanaku indeed reflected aprofound religious experience, but also was a center ofsocial andceremonial convergence comprisedofdifferent social groups indifferent social scales
