The author, explains in this article, how Jesuit priest Pablo José de Arriaga, author of "the extirpation of idolatries in Pirú " (1621) is not an extirpator of idolatries or the ideologist of them, but a missionary of the idolatries visits. Starting from that, he rescues the importance of Arriaga 's book as an anthropological document useful for the Andean religion research. The work of Arriaga offers, in this sense, an ethnographic description ofreligious costumes, reflects over the failure of evangelization, and even presents an interviewing guide for approaching the religions ofthe visited towns
