Patrimony and the definition ofpatrimony are reviewed in this essayfrom a critical vision that proposes that the UNESCO (the internationalinstitution in charge ofgiving the patrimony titles), in the process ofhandling an ethnocentric vision ofthese notion, exercises an effect over the cultures which receive the title ofpatrimony for one oftheir expressions (material orsymbolic). This effect is expressed in a risk over the cultural diversity because this vision is ethnocentric, present in the institution in charge ofdetermining the patrimonial, favouring a process of cultural homogeneity
