This paper illustrates the occupation ofthe Yura Valley andthe Porco área, localizedin the southern part ofthe Potosí department, Bolivia, during the Late Intermedíate Period (AD 1100-1400) and the Late Horizon (AD 1400-1532). In the first part ofthis work, I introduce the ethnohistorical sources that are linkedwith this important mining área. In the secondpart, I describe the archaeological data, including the settlement pattern of the most important sites and the principal styles of local ceramics: Yura, Huruquilla, Chaqui-Condoriri, Chilpe, Caranga, exploring their origins. In the conclusión de this essay, I analyze all the information collected, both histórica! and archaeological data, in order to better understand, what strategies did the Inka use to conquer this región and control itfor its benefit.
