    Abstract

MARTINEZ FLORES, Zenon  and  MARTINEZ LUIZAGA, Lizett Kattya. The quality of the fiber Lama glama, Vicugna pacos and the hybrid "Misti". Apthapi [online]. 2023, vol.9, n.2, pp. 132-138. ISSN 0102-0304.

ABSTRACT:                    The fibers produced by South American Camelids have a high demand in the international textile industry market. In the mixed sizes of alpacas (huacaya race) and llamas (intermediate type)of the communities of Catacora, the hybrid "Misti" abounds, which produces a fiber whose characteristics are unknown. In the wool laboratory of the Experimental Station of Choquenaira, fiber samples were analyzed, to determine the quality and variability: (1) between species, (2) between ages and (3) between colors. The data were processed in the S.A.S program version 9, 2004; and the variability of the diameter between species usingthe coefficient of variation (CV). The species had a highly significant effect (p<.01); in all variables. To the Tukey test: the measurement, comfort Índex and alpaca curls, were (p>.01) similar to the "Misti" hybrid, but different from the llama. The length of wick was different (p<.01) between species. The 21.57 um diameter of the "Misti" was greater (p<.01) than 22.85 um of alpaca, but both similar (p>.01) to 22.24 um of the flame. The variability of the diameter of the fíame (CV = 39%) and of the "Misti", (CV = 25%) were greater than that of the alpaca (CV = 22%). Age had a highly significant effect (p>.01) in most of the variables, as did the color with a significant effect (p<.05). The fineness and quality of the "Misti" fiber was superior to alpaca, but both similar and more homogeneous than the llama fiber. Wick sizes between species were different. The quality ofadults and dark colors were lower than youngand light. The differences in fiber quality could be attributed to the mixture of crossings between species, age and the environment.
