    Abstract

    ABSTRACT:  Through the traditional banana propagation, which consists of uprooting the young sprouts from the mother plant and transplanting them to the field, risks the spread of pests or diseases that affect yields. Likewise, given that the conventional method of production with the use of fertilizers has secondary effects, it was proposed to investigate the effect of vermicompost extract on the development of banana young sprouts under nursery conditions and to determine the adequate dose of leached. The treatments applied to the banana corms were: 5% leachate (T-1), 10% leachate (T-2), and control without leachate (T-3) with 10 replicates per treatmentfor 3 months applied twice a week. The experimental design was completely randomized (D.C.A.). The response variables were: a) plant height (cm), b) stem diameter (cm) and c) length and width of leaf (cm). According to ANVA statistical analysis and Duncan's test at 95% confidence level the results were: heights 44.24 (T-2) and 41.12 (T-1) are similar to each other, but statistically different from the control 27.95; diameters of 2.88 (T-1), 2.42 (T-2), and 2. 04 (Control) were significantly different from each other; leaf width 16.37 (T-2), 15.04 (T-1), and 13.72 (control) are significantly different from each other; leaf length of T-2 (32.6) was statistically different from T-1 (30.14) and (T-3) 28.12. In conclusion, the use of vermicompost leachate had significant effects on young sprouts in terms of length, stem thickness, leaf length and leaf width. The use of the leachate at 10% of the applied solution was the most efficient in the development of the sprouts.
