Abstract
QUISPE MAMANI, Yovana. Evaluation of the production and quality of Alpaca Huacaya fiber (Vicugna pacos) in the Original community of Chacaltaya. Apthapi [online]. 2020, vol.6, n.3, pp. 2027-2043. ISSN 0102-0304.
ABSTRACT: In orderto characterize the production and quality of the huacaya alpaca fiber from the Chacaltaya Original community, six alpaca-producing family units were interviewed and 304 alpacas of different colors, of both sexes, were sampled, grouped into age categories (DL , 2D, 4D and BLL), The results were as follows: the tamas of the family units producing alpacas are made up of 48.68% of DL alpacas, followed by 27.30% of BLL alpacas, 14.14% of 4D alpacas and 9.97% of 2D alpacas, which are under an extensive grazing system, with a lack of breeding systems, without an established sanitary calendar and shearing practices at 70% biannual and 30% per annum, it was estimated that there is an average fleece production of 4.2 Ib/alpaca per biannual shearing and 4 Ib/alpaca per annual shear. The color frequency is 97.37% for solid colors and 2.63% for stained colors. A mean fiber diameter of 23.38 |jm, a coefficient of variation of 27.44%, a comfort factor of 86.87% and a wicklength of 12.37 cm were obtained. The alpacas of the Chacaltaya Native community have a Super Fine fiber quality (22-25.5 |jm), but these fibers would have a high variation within the wick and along the fiber, the comfort factor is slightly low, which indicates that these fibers would itch when in contact with the skin and ultimately a high wick length.
