Abstract

Abstract Tarwi in Bolivia is grown in four departments, with an average yield of 637 kg ha-1, total annual production of 1,208 MT in an area of 1,895 ha. As for marketing small farmers do at the farm level or micro-regional trade intermediaries, facing unfavorable trading conditions. It is for this reason that the objective of this study was to evaluate the lupine grain marketing in the municipalities of Puerto Mayor Carabuco and Escoma. The study lasted 3 years and 3 month period from September 2010 to November 2013 at fairs in communities Korahuasi and Escoma, carrying out interviews with farmers and intermediaries, participatory workshops and direct observation. Among the main results, it can be mentioned that at the fair in Escoma, the price ranged between 0.67 tarwi 1.11 USD kg-1 and from 0.36 to 0.95 USD kg-1 for grain good and poor quality. For Korahuasi fair price variation was from 0.74 to 1.12 USD kg-1 and 0.38 and 0.81 USD kg-1 for grain between good and poor quality, be concluded that the fair Escoma is the most important in the region, with greater influx of producers and consequently higher amounts accumulated tarwi. Furthermore, producers of these regions because they can grow lupine store for long periods of time, ofertándolo when they have a financial need or when higher prices are allocated for the purchase of this product.
