Abstract

One of the most important factors in agricultural production isthe climaticcondition during the growing season, especially in activitiesdeveloped without irrigation (rainfed). Inthissense, inthe absence of water sources and infrastructure that allows the protection of crops, one of the most accepted elements in the world for risk management is agricultural insurance. The urgent need to protect crops against climatic factors has been identified, which, unlike many others that may also affect them, climatic events can not be manipulated or managed by man. Thisarticle describes the conceptualization of risk, aswell as itsrelation to the threat, asan external factor to the system and vulnerability asan infernal factor. It also setsout a classification of the threats to which agricultural crops may be exposed. Finally, it describes the creation of agrarian insurance as a component of risk management in Bolivia, and then proposes a classification of insurance modalities according to certain key characteristicsto our reality
