    Abstract

OLIVER CORTEZ, J. Cesar. Crop yields and agriculture in Bolivia (Plurinational State of).. Apthapi [online]. 2016, vol.2, n.2, pp. 36-46. ISSN 0102-0304.

Just asin industryandadministration, educationand healthservices, agriculture hasalso achieved spectacular technological advances in developed countries, which have allowed it to obtain high yields of all crops. However in our country, statistical reports from 1980 to 2008, report very low yields for most crops. The few exceptions that present increased performance are located in the Department of Santa Cruz, and consist in crops such as of soybeans, corn and rice. The low yields, have led to stagnation in the cultivated área in six out of the nine departments of the country. On the other hand, we have completely different results in the departments of Santa Cruz, Pando and Beni. In the first two, the cultivated área has been multiplied by five from 1980 until 2008, while in Beni it has been tripled. The increase in cultivated land in the Department of Santa Cruz, has allowed the growth of other business complementary to agriculture, such as the provisión of machinery, chemical fertilizers and pesticides, seed, transport, storage and credit services. These opportunities were generated by the various production chains of the agricultural sector, and have made the Department of Santa Cruz reach the highest population growth.
