SUMMARY Introduction.- Anemia is the most frequent disease, which can coincide with pregnancy or be produced by it. According to prevalence studies conducted in different regions of the world, this indicator appears between 30 - 70% in pregnant women. This research intends to determine the prevalence of iron deficiency anemia in pregnant and puerperium women who attend the Comprehensive Health Center Santiago de Presto from September 2017 to February 2018. Material and Methods.- It is a study of quantitative, observational, descriptive and transversal approach. The study population was 30 women between pregnant and puerperal women who attended their controls at the Santiago de Presto Comprehensive Health Center who agreed to be part of this study. Results.- Of 100% of the pregnant women and in the puerperium period, 60.35% presented iron deficiency anemia within the study according to the hemoglobin laboratory. It was observed that the significant risk factors in this study were knowledge about iron deficiency anemia (not known), and poor diet in both pregnant and postpartum women. The highest percentage of pregnant and puerperal women in this study had iron deficiency anemia, of which 76.19% had no knowledge of iron deficiency anemia. 41.17% of the women in the study had a poor diet during pregnancy and the puerperium. Conclusion.- The lack of knowledge about iron deficiency anemia and poor diet during pregnancy and puerperium are risk factors for iron deficiency anemia.
