SUMMARY Malnutrition is a silent and invisible emergen-cy and therefore very serious; that it charges a very high price for children and their families and is the result of a large number of causes, among which we can highlight the lack of food due to poverty, common infections in children in the first years of life, acute diarrheal diseases and acute respiratory infections, but also rela-ted to mothers' health behaviors or practices, such as their behavior with respect to exclusive breastfeeding, ablactation and hygiene. Objective: To determine the risk factors that influence chronic malnutrition in children aged 2 to 5 years, who attend the San Mauro Health Center in the municipality of Tomina, in the first quarter, 2018. Method: Adescriptive, analytical and cross-sec-tional observational study was conducted in children aged 2 to 5 years with chronic malnutrition or short stature at the San Mauro Health Center in the Municipality of Tomina, in the first trimester of the 2018administration. The study tookas universe to the population that was conformed by 67 children between the ages of 2 to 5 years; For the study, a specific sample was not establi-shed due to the size of the population, working with the 67 children who were taken to the health center for their respective weighing and who presented chronic malnutrition, in such a way as to provide greater reliability and representative-ness to the study. Results: The age of the mother, the level of education, the feeding practice were conside-red or presented a high probability of being pre-disposing risk factors for the children to present chronic malnutrition in the San Mauro health center of the municipality of Tomina. Conclusions: the risk factors that have been studied have not shown statistical significance, but presented a high probability of being a risk factor for chronic malnutrition in children.
