BALLESTEROS CHOQUE, Y; GARCIA AREVALO, G; GUTIERREZ MANJON, L.I  y  GARCIA ANDRADE, M.B.. Adolescents and the care of pets. a way to prevent canine rabies.. Arch.Boliv.Med. [online]. 2017, vol.28, n.96, pp. 33-38. ISSN 0004-0525.

SUMMARY Canine rabies is a public health problem world-wide, considered one of the causes why the po-pulation from 0 to 15 years old presents a high mortality rate; in urban rabies, the dog is the fundamental reservoir and it represents 90% of the cases of animal rabies, but it is not the only one. The basic knowledge of teenagers was considered as an essential aspect and the cha-racteristics of the knowledge they have about pet care were identified. The present work is of observational and quan-titative transversal type, the main point is to determine the adolescent knowledge, according to the aforementioned, a survey was carried out directed to the designated people, thus it was concluded that the knowledge they have is defi-cient, we must bear in mind that the responsibi-lity of each citizen plays an important role since it depends on the care given to pets. People who have low economic resources are the ones with the most pets; this is especially true in pe-ripheral areas of the city, where there is a high poverty rate; for this reason, around Gualberto Paredes School, there are aggressive dogs. This points out that every teenager who enters this School, takes the chance of being bitten, therefore it is important to provide information so they know what to do in case they got bitten by a dog; thistrying to avoid complications.
