Summary Introduction: Type II diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder, which in recent years has become a global health problem and alarming, due to the short life expectancy of those who suffer from it, with high morbi-mortality as a consequence of chronic complications and diseases associated with diabetes. Due to the transcendental importance of this topic, the objective of this study was to determine the prevalence of type II diabetes mellitus and its frequent chronic complications in patients over 30 years of age who attended the “Leo Schwarz” Comprehensive Health Center during the first semester of the 2016 management. Material and Methods: A descriptive, observational, cross-sectional study was conducted, investigating the clinical histories of 117 patients diagnosed with type II diabetes mellitus. The information was processed and analyzed by creating a database in Excel 2010 and the results were presented in tabular and graphic form. Results and Conclusions: The prevalence of type II diabetes mellitus in those over 30 years of age at the “Leo Schwarz” Health Center is 4%, predominating in patients 60 years of age or older. 74% of those affected correspond to the female sex and 64% have primary education. 9% of the studied ones present some complication of the diabetes, being the most prevalent the diabetic foot (55%).
