This research study has the general objective Determining the cost of the basic food basket in urban municipality of Sucre and the definition of the poverty line and extreme poverty as well as its relationship with the nutritional status of children / as children under 5 years; applying the methodology of the World Health Organization, in the city of Sucre from January to June 2014 . The approach is quantitative study and type of study is descriptive and cross with an ecological design. To calculate the energy requirement of the average individual in the city of Sucre, research is carried out with the total population: 237480 inhabitants. For the study of culturally accepted foods is carried out in a sample of 270 families; the study of the nutritional status of children / as in a sample of 203 and their families for calculating family income. The study of food prices in the 9 major markets in the city of Sucre. Having reached the following main results: - The cost of the basic food basket for a type 5 people to the city of Sucre family settled in 1543 Bolivian equivalent of $ 224 (January 2014). - the extreme poverty line in 1543 Bolivian poverty line between 1543 to 3086 and a non-poor Bolivians as one that has a higher monthly family income is defined bolivianos 3086. - the existence of a 43.35% of families established with some level of poverty in the city of Sucre (26.60% and 16.75% poor extreme poverty) - The prevalence of chronic malnutrition in children / as under 5 reaches 21.18%, the prevalence of acute malnutrition reaches 1.48% and the prevalence of underweight reaches 12.32%. - There is a statistically significant association between poverty and chronic and global malnutrition (X2 = 40.50; P-value 0.000; OR 95% CI 5.23 to 33.22 for chronic malnutrition and poverty X2 = 12.38; P-value. 0.0004; OR 95% CI 1.90 to 13.14 for global malnutrition and poverty). - a Living W& ge corresponding to the equivalent of two basic food baskets that 3086 should be set bolivianos per family.
