CARVAJAL OVIEDO, Hugo Eduardo; VACA PAREDES DE CARRASCO, Shirley y RAMIREZ CEREZO, Cinthia Miriam. Pelvimetric and pelvigrafic examination in obstetrics legal expertice, in cases of birth dystocia by motherly cause. Arch.Boliv.Med. [online]. 2014, vol.21, n.89, pp. 37-57. ISSN 0004-0525.
Summary The pelvis is the lower portion of the trunk and forms the middle part of the human skeleton, consisting of the two innominate bones and the last two parts of the column, i.e. the sacrum and coccyx. The importance of this article is to encourage and guide the physician to carefully re-evaluate variations in pelvic architecture to monitor the progress of labor, where the fetus takes different attitudes and positions for passage through the birth canal, isforthis reason that the female pelvis is wider than the male. This update gives a series of measurements and tests which aims to provide information to have a broad and comprehensive knowledge of the female pelvis. The exploration of the pelvis in pelvic stenosis is important for the pelvifetal disproportion, understood as the discrepancy between the size of the maternal pelvis and the fetus, which prevents the normal engagement of this at birth. This can happen either because the pelvic diameters are small (narrow pelvis or pelvic stenosis) The purpose of forensic obstetric expertise is compliance and standardized protocols at any of the levels of care are particularly important. So it becomes even more important prenatal care, not only to identify anomalies, but some control fetal growth.
