    Self-medication is the behavior for which people consume drugs without proper prescription given by a doctor's visit. The importance is that it should be a useful mechanism to help prevent and treat conditions that do not require medical consultation, however, this is not always the case, could a delay in seeking timely medical care and the development of microorganisms resistant becoming a public health problem. In Sucre no information on Self-Medication notarized, so he proposed this study, whose purpose is to determine the prevalence of self-medication among university students in our city. We obtained a 76% prevalence of self-medication, 52% female, age Range 17 to 21 years 73%, 84% and Origin Urban Economic Income Senior or Fair with 82%. More self-medicated drugs were the flu, cough suppressants and nasal decongestants 41%, the motivation to take drugs was, believe you do not need a doctor 32%, in the influence not to attend a doctor, 31% personal knowledge, the place indicated for the acquisition of the pharmacy drugs was 72% In the consultation to have knowledge of the risks of self-medicated drug use were 59% said yes, 19% of these complications and 61 % were epigastric pain. High prevalence of which is necessary to enforce the regulations and educate for responsible self-medication
