The health-disease process is an individual and social construction in which people elaborates his condition, which determines the kind ofhelp to seek. The perception of this complex process is personal and subjective and can only be understood in context in the universe of beliefs, values and behaviors of each person's sociocultural environment and the material conditions oflife. The purpose ofthe research has been to characterize the perception ofthe health - disease of the urban adult population of the city of Sucre. The results show that the perception of health problems is strongly mediated by the material conditions oflife and health assessment in a specific sociocultural context. The resolution of everyday problems such as work and food supply may dull the perception of a health problem in adults.
