    Resumen

PADILLA CHUMACERO, Martha N.. DETECCiÓN DE BETA LACTAMASAS DE ESPECTRO EXTENDIDO (BLEE) EN ESCHERICHIA COLI y KLEBSIELLA PNEUMONIAE MEDIANTE MÉTODO DE JARLIER. Arch.Boliv.Med. [online]. 2011, vol.16, n.84, pp. 7-12. ISSN 0004-0525.

The ESBL enzymes have plasmid configuration, are produced by enterobacteria that hydrolyze beta-Iactam antibiotics, including those containing the oxyimino group, such as cephalosporins of third and fourth generatíon, and aztreonam. This enzymes are produced commonly by Klebsiella spp and Escherichia colí, but may appear in other gram-negative bacteria. The failure detecting them has generated therapeutic errors in clinical practice, so the bacteriology laboratories must perform the "interpretative reading of antibiogram" in order to search for phenotypic resistance factors. Of 314 strains tested in the service of Bacteriology Hospital "Jaime Mendoza" of Sucre city, 45 correspond to Escherichia coli and 26 correspond to Klebsiella pneumoniae producing enzymes extended-spectrum beta-Iactamase. Regarding age, persons aged 61 and over were those that showed higher prevalence of infectíon with these strains. These bacteria showed sensitivity to imipenem, and to a lesser percentage to amikacin.

Palabras llave : Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamase (ESBL); Escherichia coti; Klebsiella pneumoniae.
