MEIRA DA LA COSTA, ALANA  e  ARANCIBIA ULLOA, FERNANDO LUIS. Embarazo Ectópico. Univ. Cienc. Soc. [online]. 2013, n.9, pp. 52-58. ISSN 8888-8888.

Ectopic pregnancies are not common, occurring in approximately two of every 100 pregnancies. However, one fact has be-come more frequent in the past 30 years. According to WHO (2009) 90% of ectopic pregnancies are tubal, but can also be found in the cervix, abdomen and ovary. The topographic distribution of ectopic pregnancies can be outlined as follows: 98% are tubal seat, 1 % develop in the ovary and 1 % of primary or secondary implants in the abdomen. Among the risk factors found more often in women who had undergone previous ectopic pregnancy, intrauterine device use, previous tubal surgery, previous pelvic inflammatory disease, or history of infertility. The frequency is 1 to 2.6% of all pregnancies, the mortality is 1 per 1,000 of all ectopic pregnancies, the recurrence rate is 12%. Other factors that may increase your risk of ectopic pregnancy are: getting pregnant after having served 35 years of age, having previously experienced an ectopic pregnancy, and the fact that in the past been subjected to some kind of surgery on your fallopian tubes. Unfortuna-tely, these risk factors can not always get to be prevented.
