SANCHEZ NAVES, Paloma e VEDIA VEDIA, Cecilia. Dissolving ability of two different solvents: orange oil and eucalyptol in vitro analysis used in endodontic retreatment at univalle-cochabamba odontological clinic, 2014. Rev. Inv. Inf. Salud [online]. 2016, vol.11, n.27, pp. 16-22. ISSN 2075-6194.
The progress of dental caries can become so extensive that affects the vitality of the teeth and in the attempt to maintain a tooth in the mouth, endodontics must be the solution. Given the fre-quent need to remove the seáls conduit in radicular retreat procedures, an experimental, prospec-tive and transversal research was performed, invitro on extracted pieces, previously endodonti-cally treated in order to evaluate the effectiveness of two solvents based on essential oils: Eucalyptol and Orange for gutta-percha solubilization. The universe consisted of 50 teeth extracted, which were divided into two study groups, each group consisting of 25 teeth. The hypothesis was that the Orange Oil has a better ability to dissolve gutta-percha compared to Eucalyptol. It was evident that Orange Oil was more effective than Eucaliptol for solubilization of the gutta-percha in the endodontic retreatment; as Orange Oil softened the cones in less time (30 seconds to 2 minutes), thus allowing penetration of 3 mm K type a file to start work manually unsealing of root canals.
