Pleural effusion is defined as the pathological accumulation of fluid in the space located between the two pleura. Malignant pleural effusion (MPE) is what occurs in the context of a malignancy; it may arise as a direct result of this process or indirectly relate to it, which is known as paraneoplastic spill. The presence of malignant pleural effusion carries a poor prognosis, since it represents advanced tumor stage. Progressive dyspnea is the most common symptom in patients with malignant pleural effusion followed by coughing and chest pain. The goal of treatment is palliative, local procedures such as pleurodesis to relieve dyspnea and impro-ve life quality aim to avoid repeated thoracentesis in patients unresponsive to systemic therapy.
