ESPINOZA T, Beymar; LOPEZ D, Heber L e HENRY D, Patty F. Presence of Escherichia Coli on the left mouse buttons of a public internet randomly chosen on Saavedra Avenue in the city of La Paz on September 2012. SCIENTIFICA [online]. 2013, vol.11, n.1, pp. 2-6. ISSN 1813-0054.
SUMMARY Introduction: Most people do not give importance to dirt that accumulates in the mouse and keyboard despite being very well known and disclosed the contamination of these, by media informal and non-scientific. This added to the growing supply of premises providing Internet services represent a serious public health problem. Objectives: To test the presence of Escherichia coli, in the Left Button Mouses a local or Internet services, to check the evidence of poor hygiene can be found in these places. Methodology: Sample making buttons Mouses left of a place that offers public internet, randomly chosen, and used the Mc Conkey medium to demonstrate the presence of Escherichia coli. Results: It was evident the presence of Staphylococcus epidermidis in 40% of the total sample while Escherichia coli was also found in 40% of the total sample. Discussion: We do not know the hygiene habits of each individual who frequents the Internet and we can't deny the possibility that the presence of Escherichia coli is frequent or constant, or that this is the only potentially pathogenic microorganism so this device is a potential vehicle transmitting potentially pathogenic microorganism. Conclusions: The evidence, although not finalized the constant presence of potentially pathogenic bacteria in these devices, finding a 40% presence, and emphasize the importance of hand washing, promote this by the media and not only so of health professionals
