Unwanted pregnancies are still a public health unsolved problem worldwide but the overwhelming majority of theses pregnancies occur in developing countries. In these countries unwanted pregnancies are performed in unsafe conditions with devastating effects on the mother's health and serious social consequences. In the present work, we are discussed the use of emergency contraception as an approach to prevent this problem, promote maternal health and protect human rights, especially the rights of women.
