ZARATE HUAYLLA, MAIRA DANIELA and PAREDES, EDGAR. Antibioticoterapia en la unidad de hospitalización de la caja de salud de la banca privada (santa cruz de la sierra). Univ. Cienc. Soc. [online]. 2012, n.7, pp. 14-19. ISSN 8888-8888.
The use of antibiotic therapy is analyzed in the hospitalization unit of the Health Fund of Private Banking (CSBP) of the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra in the first quarter 2010. 373 patients receiving antibiotics from both genders were studied. It is shown that the females receive antibiotics in higher percentage compared to males in the same age group. The major crite-rion for the use of antibiotics was clinical over microbiological, in both Obstetrics and Gynecology, with Internal Medicine as the highest percentage of use. On the other hand, the neonatology service did not use any antibiotics in their patients. The purposes for which the antibiotics were primarily used were prophylactic, empirical and specific with varying percentages. The conditions in which antibiotics were used the most were: pregnancy related diseases (labor and puerperium) digestive, infectious and parasitic diseases, in that order. During the study it was also determined that the most frequent used route of administration was oral, followed by intravenous. The group of antibiotics used the most was beta-lactams (penicillins and cephalosporins 1st and 2nd generation), followed by quinolones.
