Abstract

HEREDIA ROCA, RUBEN²  and  PAZ BURGOS, LIDIA EMMA³. Concordancia entre el método Electroforético y Colorimétrico en la determinación de Hemoglobina Glicosilada (HbA1c) en Pacientes Diabéticos Hospital Santa Cruz : CAJA PETROLERA DE SALUD (AGOSTO A NOVIEMBRE 2008)1. Univ. Cienc. Soc. [online]. 2012, n.6, pp. 22-27. ISSN 8888-8888.

The correlation between the electrophoretic and colorimetric methods was established in the determina-tion of glycosylated hemoglobin Hb A1c, through the analysis of samples of 89 diabetic patients in the hospital Caja Petrolera de Salud in Santa Cruz from August to November 2008. 69 samples presented concordance and 20 samples presented discordance in Hb A1. Greater sensitivity was found in the electrophoretic method (98%) than in the colorimetric (74%). Therefore, the probability of correctly classifying an individual with a high HbA1c was higher by electrophoresis. This method was proven to be better for testing or monitoring patients under treatment, helping to establish adherence to treatment. However, the estimated colorimetric method specifidty (94%) was higher than the specifidty calculated for electrophoresis (44%). Hence, this test would be ideal for an initial diagnosis, but not for post treatment follow up, which is intended to reduce characteristic complications of poorly controlled diabetic patients.
