Abstract

A study on the risk of transmission of Trypanosoma cruzi by infected triatomines is presented, the study was performed in the town of Paurito municipality of Cotoca - Santa Cruz, studying qualitative and quantitative variables. The analysis of the insects was performed by direct method. To isolate the Trypanosoma cruzi the intestinal contents of the kissing bugs were studied by microscopy. The capture of live and dead triatomines was performed with a prophylactic techni-que. The samples were obtained from the triatomine infested houses by the observation of their habitat and the search inside the houses and around them. The following results were obtained: Of 84 studied homes, 72 had brick building, 12 had adobe building. The infestation index of the houses was 7 (8.33%) in the Town of Paurito. The density index of all households had an average of 0.75 triatomines per house. The index for housing overcrowding of triatomines had an average of 9, while the rate of infestation by triatomines is 17.46%.
