Abstract

Blood calcium analysis was performed in people ranging from 5 to 65 years of age in the town of Villa Montes, people who voluntarily participated in the study from Augustto December 2008. Thetarget population consisted of 177 people to whom 3 ml of venous blood without anticoagulant were extracted forthe measurementof calcium. Once the blood was drawn, the separation of the same proceeded in the laboratoryof Villa Montes Basic Hospital. Afterwards, the samples were transported to the laboratory of UCEBOL Clinic of the city of Santa Cruz, under refrigeration. The 71.75% (127) of people had calcium levels within the normal range (8.5 to 10.5 mg / dl) and 28.25% (50) people had hypocalcemia (calcium levels below 8.5 mg / dl) of which 18.08% (32) people were female and 10.17% (18) people were men. The age group that showed higher frequency of hypocalcemia was 5 to 10 years with 7.91% (14) children, followed bythe group of 51 to 60 years of age with 5.65% (10) people.
