    Abstract

MENESES TELLO, Felipe. POPULAR LIBRARIES: SPACE COMMITTED TO THE EDUCATION IN THE SERVICE OF THE PEOPLE. Rev. Fuent. Cong. [online]. 2011, vol.5, n.13, pp. 30-35. ISSN 1997-4485.

An analysis of two contexts of popular libraries, wrongly assimilated as public libraries. Initially, shows that according to the proletarian mold, the popular library is intended for individual and collective needs of education, information and recreation of disadvantaged social groups; then from the view of Paulo Freire, the importance of the popular library lies in relation to the programmes of education and popular culture in general, especially with adult literacy. Therefore, Praxis popular libraries are spaces that are used and are intended to support popular education, which is sometimes promoted by the own sectors of the people.
