ESCOBAR BRACAMONTE, Coral et al. ESTUDIO DE LINFOMAS NO HODGKIN EN 5 CENTROS MÉDICOS DE COCHABAMBA DE ENERO DE 1997 A ENERO DE 2002.. Ciencia y Medicina [online]. 2003, n.4, pp. 12-16. ISSN 1111-1111.
There is no registration about lymphoma epidemiology in Cochabamba, therefore, the objective is to find out the magnitude of No-Hodgkin Lymphoma (NHL) in our environment along with its clinical and epidemiological characteristics. With an observational study of descriptive, retrospective and transverse type, we studied 143 patients with LNH diagnosis. Out of 99 evaluated patients, a slight prevalence in males was observed (55%). Most of the patients were older than 60 years (40%),consulted for: pain (31 patients) and palpable mass (34 patients). 40% presented signs and symptoms in less than one year. We describe the haemogram and sanguine chemistry characteristics and phased development studies. Only 53% of the cases were properly classified in stages. Regarding to the histological type, the only information available was of 59 % (59 patients), from which 54% was of intermediate degree, 32% of low degree and only 13% of high degree. Chemotherapy combined with or without radiotherapy was the treatment given to most of the patients. The life span could not be evaluated. NHL is a growing health problem in our environment, public health measures should be adopted in order to face this problem.
